Building a global partnership between youth and Rosatom
Impact Team 2050 is the International Youth Advisory Council to Rosatom Director General. It unites 8 young leaders from diverse regional and professional backgrounds.
Its key mission is to promote nuclear science, energy and technologies in multiple regions of the world, engaging young people into the nuclear sector through peer-to-peer outreach formats and educational projects. Impact Team members also provide strategic advice to Rosatom leadership on how to enhance youth engagement in nuclear education and awareness raising across the globe.

Since 2022, Impact Team 2050 has reached out to thousands of young changemakers across Latin America, Africa, Europe, East and Southeast Asia, South and Central Asia
Equip students with the knowledge about non-energy applications of nuclear and support them in developing solutions to local environmental issues, such as water quality and soil pollution, with the help of nuclear technologies

In Latin America, the Impact Team 2050 team has launched a series of events across the continent in the lead-up to the UN Climate Conference (COP30) in Brazil. Under the slogan “Pensar nuclear é pensar em futuro, sustentabilidade e colaboração” (“To think nuclear is to think about the future, sustainability, and collaboration”), the programme showcased how responsible use of nuclear technology can advance sustainable development and social innovation. The activities united young people passionate about nuclear technologies from Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Venezuela, and Mexico. At COP30, their delegation presented the outcomes of the 2 years of youth-led work across the continent
- Organized a youth session “Empowering Latin American Young Minds Through Nuclear Solutions: Pathway to a Sustainable Future” at the IAEA Atoms4Climate Pavilion and presented the results of the 2-year Latin American Youth Nuclear Movement project, including educational workshops, the 1st and 2nd Latin American Youth Nuclear Forum in Brazil, Sustainable Energy Festival in Bolivia, and Sustainability Hackathon in Argentina
- Presented the special report “Advancements in Small Modular Reactors”, prepared in partnership with the BRICS Youth Energy Agency and the BRICS Nuclear Energy Platform, at the IAEA session “Regional Leadership and Global Development Pathways of the SMRs
- Joice Mendez, Impact Team 2050 member, spoke about the opportunities for young people in the nuclear industry at the COP30 Rio-Belem panel session
- Organized a partnership session with the International Youth Nuclear Congress (IYNC) to share their experience in promoting nuclear energy among young people and schoolchildren in Latin American countries
Impact Team 2050 for the first time took part in the UN Climate Change Conference to advocate for nuclear energy as a viable climate solution. At the venue, members participated in thematic sessions, raised awareness about nuclear technologies, and organized a special tour around key COP28 youth-focused pavilions and events for Rosatom leadership

At the COP29 UN Climate Change Conference, Princess Mthombeni, Impact Team 2050 member from South Africa, participated in the intergenerational high-level session entitled «Green Education Technologies: On the Way to Equitable and Sustainable Future». The session enjoyed the participation of top-level managers from Rosatom, IAEA and World Nuclear Association and addressed the role of education initiatives as a pathway to a sustainable and equitable future, with STEM education enabling females in accessing engineering and green jobs
The International Youth Forum on Sustainable Nuclear Technologies gathered more than 300 young professionals, students, and world leaders from 25 countries. The Forum was aimed at popularizing nuclear technologies and the potential of the Egyptian nuclear industry, as well as involving young people in nuclear power. The event was organized by the Nuclear Power Plants Authority of Egypt (NPPA) in partnership with Rosatom. Impact Team 2050 contributed as speakers of panel sessions and lecturers in a TED-talk format
- Impact Team 2050 member Ignacio Villarroya delivered a TED-talk lecture on the Argentinian experience in using nuclear techniques for harvest preservation and sterilization of harmful mosquito species
- Impact Team 2050 member Princess Mthombeni spoke at the intergenerational plenary session about the African youth perspective for nuclear energy development on the continent
- Visited the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant site with a technical tour and met with the NPP engineering team
At the Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum, Impact Team 2050 gathered to meet with Rosatom Director General and participate in panel discussions on Africa’s energy development
- Impact Team 2050 met with Rosatom Director General and updated the leadership on the projects for implementation in the members’ respective regions of the world
At the World Atomic Week, Impact Team 2050 met with Rosatom Director General to present the results of the projects implemented in Latin America and Central Asia. The members also took part in the strategic session for 100 global young nuclear professionals and developed the Youth Declaration for Nuclear Cooperation which includes seven principles for the world’s nuclear industry. Impact Team members presented the Declaration to international nuclear leaders at the final session of the World Atomic Week
- Impact Team 2050 met with Rosatom Director General and presented the results of their projects that were implemented across Latin American and Central Asian countries with discussing the workplan for 2026
- Contributed to the development of the Youth Declaration for Nuclear Cooperation and presented the document to esteemed global experts at the World Atomic Week
- Participated in the strategic session together with 100 young nuclear professionals from 33 countries
Obninsk NEW International Youth Nuclear Forum is the world’s largest annual youth nuclear forum taking place in the birthplace of nuclear energy – the city of Obninsk where the first-ever nuclear power plant was launched in 1954. Impact Team 2050 participated in two forums as speakers and held advisory meetings with Rosatom leadership on the strategies to develop Obninsk Tech – a new scientific and educational cluster for global nuclear talent
- Met with Rosatom Director General and company’s leadership, the mayor of Obninsk and MEPhI university chancellor to provide strategic recommendations on the development of Obninsk Tech, its promotion, attraction and retention of talent
- Took part in an interactive workshop with the International Atomic Energy Agency on educational outreach to engage the young generation in nuclear science and technology
- Contributed to thematic panel discussions as speakers and moderators;
- Visited the world’s first nuclear power plant on a technical tour
ATOMEXPO is the main global exhibition for the nuclear industry held annually since 2009 and serving as a key platform for experts and companies to discuss nuclear technology, sign cooperation agreements, and shape the future of nuclear energy as a low-carbon power source. Impact Team 2050 participated in the 2022 ATOMEXPO sessions and official roundtable discussions with their contributions as young nuclear professionals
- Supported and coordinated the youth programme of the 2022 ATOMEXPO
- Spoke at thematic sessions providing the perspective of young nuclear professionals
- Contributed to the high-level roundtable discussion on the future of nuclear energy with Rosatom and IAEA leadership
On August 8, 2025, in the village of Ulken (Zhambyl District, Almaty Region, Kazakhstan), the initial work began on the nuclear power plant construction project – engineering surveys to determine the optimal site and prepare design documentation for the future high-capacity NPP. Diana Gamazova, member of Impact Team 2050 from Kazakhstan, joined the official launch ceremony together with Director General of the Russian State Corporation Rosatom Alexey Likhachev, Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev, and Akim of Almaty Region Marat Sultangaziyev
Asian Symposium on Risk Assessment and Management (ASRAM) is an annual symposium focused on risk and safety assessment, reliability analysis, and resilience issues. Jitsai Santaputra, Impact Team 2050 member from Thailand, participated in ASRAM with a presentation about the international educational opportunities that Rosatom has to offer to young professionals in nuclear, such as Female Nuclear Leadership Camp and Obninsk NEW International Youth Nuclear Forum
Tsinghua Global Youth Dialogue (TGYD) is a prestigious international initiative by Tsinghua University, China, which serves as a platform for young global leaders to discuss pressing world issues like climate change, energy transition, AI, and global health. Ignacio Villarroya, Member of Impact Team 2050 from Argentina, participated in the 2025 TGYD in China where he presented the Hackathon for Sustainability project and how Impact Team 2050 contributes to engaging the young generation in nuclear science and technology across the world

In 2022, 8 young people from 8 countries became members of the 1st cohort of Impact Team 2050
They are talented scientists, engineers, community leaders, educators and advocates for sustainable development and a just energy transition. Each member represents their country’s young generation with a particular set of values and a vision for the future.

Princess is a South African nuclear communicator with 13 years experience in the sector. She has successfully cooperated with major nuclear stakeholders like IAEA, WNU, African Young Generation in Nuclear (AYGN), Women in Nuclear South Africa (WiNSA), IYNC and International Science and Technology Centre (ISTC) and took part in key conferences where nuclear had to be represented. After advising the Government of South Africa, she decided to found Africa4Nuclear Foundation to promote African youth voices for nuclear. Her Africa4Nuclear Episodes made a great success on YouTube and other media platforms.
Zongxu is a joint PhD candidate of Tsinghua and Oxford, majoring in water resources management and global governance. His research focuses on the attribution of compound extreme events and their impacts on global ecosystems. He is the head delegate of China to G20 Youth Summit (Y20) Indonesia. In 2022, he participated in COP27 as a global youth ambassador of the Global Alliances of Universities on Climate (GAUC).
Ignacio is a natural resources engineering student at National University of Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina. Currently Ignacio organizes Jovenes por el Clima, a youthled climate movement in Argentina, where he advocates for a just energy transition where workers and countries of the Global South are not left behind. Ignacio takes an active stance locally and internationally. He leads the local government’s Youth and Climate Commission and promotes youth green energy employment. A number of his projects were created together with CNEA (Argentinian Atomic Energy Commission). In 2021, Ignacio was chosen as an Argentinian Delegate for the United Nations’ PreCOP26 Youth Summit known as ‘Youth4Climate: Youth Driving Ambition’ in Milan, Italy.
Joice is a global activist and expert on the just energy transition, indigenous peoples and climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean. She is a major youth voice of Latin America within leading youth energy and climate mechanisms, including her tenure at the UN Secretary-General’s Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change. Joice is a co-founder of the Latin American Observatory of Geopolitics of Energy and leader of the Impact Team project to build the Latin American Youth Nuclear Movement.
Diana is a young Ecoactivist from Kazakhstan who has majored in international youth advocacy at the United Nations‘ global gatherings like UNEP Assembly, UN FCCC COP, Stockjolm+50 Conference where she led a youth delegation of her homeland. Together with Children Draw the World Fund she has managed to draft amendments to the Kazakhstani Environmental Code. Diana created a series of workshops and initiated collaborations with local universities. This year, she joined RecycleBirge to give an extra attention to plastic pollution, green economy and resource management in Kazakhstan among the youth. She has organized and directed Kazakhstan’s first Climate Change podcast.
Gagik studied International Relations in Yerevan State University, Armenia. He holds a bachelor degree in International Relations. He has worked in different NGOs for the last 3 years. He used to work as a facilitator and project manager in different local and international activities about environmental protection and social inclusion. After two years as Communications Officer in Youth and Environment Europe (YEE), he dedicated one year to Outward Bound Croatia where he worked as an Educator on Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection. Recently Gagik organized an environmental project with JEF Europe and the Slovenian Ministry of Environment. He continues his career as Project Manager at Yeghvard Youth Ecological NGO in Yerevan and is an author of youth-led campaigns & initiatives.
Mujeeb is an international energy and sustainability consultant advising governments, utilities and the private sector in their energy transition journey. An engineer by training, his previous engagements include serving intergovernmental organizations, namely the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in the sustainable energy division. He plays an active role in youth empowerment in sustainable energy and climate change through his engagements as a Global Shaper with the World Economic Forum and the SDG7 Youth Constituency, United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY), where he was the founding team member of "Youth Sustainable Energy Hub", the first online global platform for youth action in sustainable energy. Recently, he has been recognized as a Future Sustainability Leader by Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).
Jitsai’s career is marked by significant milestones that reflect her commitment to driving change. Among her proudest accomplishments are the establishment of Youth for Energy Southeast Asia (Y4E-SEA) in 2023, a platform uniting young energy leaders to collaborate on a just energy transition. She was also appointed as the SDG7 Global Youth Ambassador for Southeast Asia (2023-2024), amplifying youth voices in global forums. Jitsai is a recipient of the REvolutionaries Award 2024, a prestigious international energy honor. As a member of Impact Team 2050, she brings her expertise and extensive network to help build accessible education about nuclear energy.
